40,000 DEATHS PER YEAR FROM CLIMATE CHANGE IN UK WILL CONTINUE TO RISE: DOCTORS RAISE THE ALARM ABOUT THE CLIMATE AND ECOLOGICAL EMERGENCY
Air pollution caused by fossil fuel burning for transport in the City of London reached an illegal limit breach within just three months of 2019 exposing millions of Londoners including 400,000 children. The health repercussions of these high levels of pollution include exacerbated cases of asthma, lung cancer, heart failure and cardiovascular disease to name a few and Climate Change threatens to make this worse through mass heatwaves in Europe and extreme cold weather.
Doctors across the country are telling the truth, Newcastle Hospital and the Royal College of GPs have declared a Climate Emergency. Coupled with doctors around the country joining Extinction Rebellion and sacrificing their civil liberty.
We spoke to four doctors who have bravely stood up and joined the October Rebellion about this public health crisis and the desperate need for the government to take notice and create systemic change and tell the truth about Climate Change. They explain the dire medical consequences of climate breakdown, what they are doing about it personally and their duty towards their patients to take action when they’re safety is compromised.
