The film is about a dad who spends his evenings driving his children to sleep, in the film he looks back on his life before children and reminisces about a simpler time, when he was a new romantic in the 80s. In typical tongue in cheek retro style, there’s an outdoor backdrop, dry ice, pouty dancing, surreal visuals and… a unicorn.

Tiff’s out the office today so it falls to me, the newbie, Tom (or Wayne – either’s good) to provide February’s bloggery. Here goes. Sorry – I should introduce myself properly: Hello. I’m Tom. I write things. So… I hate to start with bad news but…

We couldn’t help wonder as we stroked our rubbery chins whether old Hitler Youth B-Ratz  would have seen the funny side of this.

It’s true. Fox news didn’t spot that there was two womens in their article about how traditional gender roles are essential for marriage. Buzzfeed did. Oh come on – we all have our off days. At least it’s not two men. That’s at least twice as evil.

Speaking of evil – no, that is not an appropriate segway to talking about slow internet connection but this cartoon on The Oatmeal was a timely, and oddly sexual reminder that sometimes all or nothing is better than something…

And finally, if you you overdid it this weekend, said something you shouldn’t have, slept with the wrong person – don’t worry – it happens – rest assured they’ll always be someone more annoying than you. This guy…

Incase you’ve not been online much this year, here are some things that have happened so far…

1) We were assigned a new leader

Sam the Instagram eyebrow cat took over from Tard the grumpy cat as the feline du jour. Buzzfeed wrote this thought provoking piece on why we should love him, which features several pictures of Sam looking like the cat version of a Martin Scorsese and Eugene Levy lovechild.

2)  Applebees fired someone over a post on Reddit

When Chelsea Welch posted a picture of a till receipt to r/atheism she obviously had no idea that she’d be out of a job a few days later. Gawker has the full story.

3) Vine Launched

The micro video sharing app backed by Twitter is totally awesome if you’re into failed uploads and loading screens. As always, the Internet responded in the only way it knows how, by using it for porn. (SFW link) This is why we can’t have nice things…

4)  It snowed, and no one really knew what to do…

Every time it snows in the UK, people forget what snow is and how to deal with it. For about 3 days Twitter became a place where people were either talking about the snow, or telling people not to talk about the snow, it was a battlefield. Then a cat went out into the snow, and everything was fine again.

If the world does end tomorrow then at least we will go out with a bang.

Our latest campaign, and last of the year: ‘The Motherhood’ feat. Fiat 5ooL for krow communications, has been every bit as enjoyable as all the others over the past 12 months. And the internet seems to be enjoying it too.

On writing this the video has already got 730k+ views in five days. And several blog posts including Mashable, Female First, Digital Spy, Trendhunter & Skiddmark.

Even the Head of Google+, Vic Gundotra , felt it was worth sharing.

The brief was simple: To create a hip-hop video for mums everywhere telling it like it is to celebrate the launch of Fiat’s newest model the 500L. This combined our two favourite things: cars & straight-talking women!

Between Christmas and the New Year we will reflect on twelve months that have been an absolute joy, and got us to produce work for and work with clients we only dreamed about.

In the meantime we wish you all a very Happy Christmas, and if the Mayans are right there’s still time to make it to France.

Exciting times at Rubber HQ! Last week we helped create this film for Bodyform, and right now we couldn’t be more thrilled with the response. Mashable, Jezebel and The Huffington Post have all picked up the video, which was made as a tongue in cheek response to a Facebook rant.

Last Monday a user called Richard Neill took to the brand’s Facebook wall to vent his frustration about the advertising myth that surrounds periods. Within a few hours, the post had already started to go viral and by Wednesday it had amassed over 75,000 likes. Bodyform wanted to respond, so we helped them create this video response aimed at Richard, and all the other blissfully ignorant men out there.

Richard took it all in his stride, taking to their Facebook page again and calling it ‘genius’.

It has been an absolute pleasure to work with the mighty Carat and Bodyform who have been fun, fearless and fantastic throughout the project and we’ve all learned a valuable lesson. Periods are pretty funny.

A ‘playable city’ invites and encourages residents and visitors to engage with the cultural and creative future of the city; to rewrite its services, places and stories.

So, here’s the challenge…

Use creative technologies in surprising and engaging ways to encourage people in exploring the ‘playable city’.

Bristol’s diverse economy across arts, media, technology and open spaces provides an ideal backdrop to be playful in public.

The winner will receive £30,000 to create a new work which will be installed in a public space in Bristol next summer before being toured internationally.
